So, Mayor Shirley Franklin halted new construction of infill, known as 'McMansions,' until February 6, but EAV is not covered. It covers North Buckhead, Virginia Highland, Morningside-Lenox Park, Ansley Park-Sherwood Forest, and Lake Claire. Councilwoman Norwood said EAV could opt in, through the neighborhood association. EAV shoudl do it, and require that home at least resmble other home in the neighborhoods.

I totally agree. I hate the idea of McMansions taking over. They just look horrid next to "normal" sized homes.

And that accommodation has worked SO well in L5P... the neighborhood is completely ruined by faux Craftsman and especially that hideous row of townhouses on Moreland. Traffic. Parking. Starbucks. What EAV has going for it is that now, for a brief shining moment, it looks like L5P and Candler Park USED to in the 80s.

I'd be really suspicious of such "compromise." Already the area is completely unaffordable for artists and writers. Faux kitsch lurks... witness the mall where the Atlanta Gas parking lot used to be.

What they ought to be building, if anything, is small, AFFORDABLE, detached housing that uses traditional architecture. But that's less profitable for contractors than an overbuilt, imitation, two-story, five-bedroom "Craftsman" with a faux-iron fence.
